Neartown Church Discipleship Operating System

At Neartown, we believe following Jesus is more than believing the right things or attending church. It is learning to trust Jesus with our whole lives and becoming more like Him in the everyday moments of life.

Spiritual growth doesn’t happen accidentally. Over time, the Holy Spirit uses truth, relationships, practices, and repeated acts of obedience to reshape our lives around Jesus.

We describe that life through four ongoing movements:

Belong → Surrender → Train → Multiply

These aren't four steps you complete. They are movements you continually live in as you follow Jesus.

Belong

Where do I find community and connection?

Life with Jesus was never meant to be lived alone. We step into relationships where we are known, welcomed, encouraged, and challenged.

Following Jesus often begins with simply finding a place to belong—people who know your name, know your story, and are willing to walk with you.

I find friendships.

Surrender

Who do I trust with my life?

At the center of the Christian life is a decision to trust Jesus.

We believe Jesus is not simply someone to learn about but someone to entrust our lives to. We receive Him as Savior and surrender to Him as Lord.

And surrender isn't only a one-time decision. Throughout our lives, Jesus continually invites us to trust Him with another relationship, decision, fear, desire, or part of our future.

I place my faith in Jesus and surrender my life to Him.

Train

How is my life being shaped by Jesus?

Jesus doesn't simply invite us to believe differently. He teaches us to live differently.

That takes training.

We learn the way of Jesus through Scripture and begin practicing His way in everyday life. We turn from patterns that aren't aligned with Him and develop new ones through prayer, obedience, relationships, generosity, forgiveness, service, and other practices that shape us over time.

Transformation usually doesn't happen through one dramatic moment. It happens as we follow Jesus again and again in the ordinary moments of real life.

I reorder my life and practice the way of Jesus.

Multiply

Who am I helping follow Jesus?

Life with Jesus eventually turns outward.

As Jesus changes us, we begin investing in others. We encourage them, share what we're learning, serve them, lead them, and help them take their own next steps toward Jesus.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you can help someone else. You simply begin sharing with others what Jesus is doing in you.

I help others do the same.

Where Does This Happen?

We intentionally create three environments where these movements can become part of everyday life:

Gather

Gather sets direction.

We come together to worship God through friendships, singing, prayer, Scripture, Communion, Baptism, and responding to what God is teaching us.

Our Sunday gatherings remind us who God is, who we are, and the kind of life Jesus is inviting us to live.

Connect

Connect facilitates transformation.

We build relationships where we can be known and practice following Jesus together.

Through Loop Groups, Mentor Groups, and other relationships, we process real life, encourage one another, ask questions, practice obedience, and help each other grow.

Serve

Serve puts it into motion.

Following Jesus changes the way we live in the world.

We serve, give, share our faith, care for our neighbors, pursue the good of our city, and use what God has given us to help others.

Our faith moves from something we believe to something we actually live.

This Is How Life with Jesus Works

We don't believe discipleship is primarily about moving through church programs.

It's about becoming a certain kind of person.

Again and again, we Belong, Surrender, Train, and Multiply as we participate in environments that help us follow Jesus in real life.

And over time, something happens:

We become more like Jesus and increasingly able to help others experience the peace of life with Him.

That's what we're after at Neartown.

This is how life with Jesus works.
