NEARTOWN OPERATING SYSTEM
The Neartown Discipleship Operating System serves as a strategic manual for spiritual development, framing life with Jesus as an operating system rather than a set of programs. At its core, the document outlines a continuous pathway of growth involving four key movements: finding community through belonging, entrusting one's life through surrender, reshaping habits through training, and ultimately multiplying by investing in others. These movements are activated within specific environments—Gather, Connect, and Serve—which transition faith from internal belief to outward action. The text also details a leadership pipeline that tracks a person’s progress from a mission partner to a director, showing how individual maturity eventually scales into systemic oversight.
Ultimately, this Operating System emphasizes that spiritual formation occurs through repeated acts of obedience in everyday life, ensuring that followers of Christ are consistently reintegrated and matured.
Public Language: “This is how life with Jesus works.”

1. CALLING
Our calling is at the center of everything.
Our Mission: Inviting busy people to experience the peace of life with Jesus Christ.
Our Values:
New Relationships
Everyday Connections
Radical Generosity
Global Impact
Our Vision: This will be a S.M.A.R.T. goal finalized by the Pastor Team.
Our beliefs define our calling which drives everything we do.
2. FORMATION (WHAT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING)
We believe spiritual maturity is not accidental...it’s formed over time.
People are changed as they follow Jesus in real moments of life—when they choose trust and obedience under pressure.
We are being formed across four interconnected dimensions:
● Physical
● Emotional
● Ethical
● Spiritual
Spiritual formation is the Spirit-led process by which a fragmented person is gradually reintegrated around Jesus through truth, relationships, practices, and repeated acts of obedience.
3. THE PATHWAY (HOW IT MOVES)
We describe this growth through four ongoing movements:
Belong → Surrender → Train → Multiply
These are not steps you complete...they are movements you continually live in.
Belong — Where do I find community and connection? “I find friendships.”
We step into relationships where we are known, welcomed, and connected. We don’t follow Jesus alone.
Surrender — Who do I trust with my life? “I place my faith in Jesus and surrender my life to Him.” Salvation & Ongoing Surrender
We trust Jesus as Savior and Lord. This is more than belief... it is entrusting our lives to Him and surrendering to His leadership.
Train — How is my life being shaped by Jesus? “I reorder my life and practice the way of Jesus.” Sanctification
We don’t just believe...we begin to live differently. We train by learning the way of Jesus in Scripture and practicing it in everyday life.
We turn from what is not aligned with Jesus and build new patterns of life through obedience, habits, and daily practice.
Transformation happens as we follow Jesus again and again in real-life moments...with our lives continually shaped and grounded in Scripture.
Multiply — Who am I helping follow Jesus? “I help others do the same.”
As we grow, we begin to invest in others—encouraging, leading, and helping them follow Jesus. Discipleship naturally leads to multiplication.
Illustration: The Gym Journey
This is how formation works... not in theory, but in real life.
(Belong) Imagine someone invites you to a gym. At first, you just show up. You don’t know much, you’re not fully committed, but people welcome you. They learn your name... you start recognizing faces... and you begin to feel like you belong. That’s where it starts. You’re not all in yet... but you’re connected.
(Surrender) Then someone introduces you to a trainer and says, “This person can really help you.” Now you have a decision to make. Do you trust them? Do you believe they actually know what they’re doing and can help you change? And when you say, “Okay... I trust you,” that’s a turning point. You’re no longer just showing up... you’re entrusting yourself to someone who can lead you.
(Train) From there, everything shifts. You don’t just decide...you begin to train. You show up consistently. You change your schedule. You adjust your habits. You lift, you run, you sweat... and you come back again and again. You’re not just thinking differently...you’re living differently. Your choices look different, not just in the gym but outside it as well. That’s training. This is where transformation actually happens...not in a one-time decision, but in repeated practice over time.
(Multiply) And eventually, something changes in you. A new person walks in... unsure, a little intimidated... just like you were. And now you’re the one saying, “Hey, I remember my first day... let me help you get started.” You’re not just working out anymore... you’re helping someone else change. That’s multiplication.
4. ENVIRONMENTS (WHERE IT RUNS)
This operating system runs through three key environments:
Gather • Connect • Serve
Gather (Sunday Mornings & Prayer Nights)
We gather to worship God through singing, praying, Bible teaching, observing ordinances (Communion & Baptism), and responding to truth.
Connect (Loop Groups, Mentor Groups, Men’s & Women’s Events)
We strengthen relationships, process real life, and practice following Jesus together.
This is where transformation deepens.
Serve (Mission Trips, Serve Days)
We live out our faith in everyday life—serving, sharing, and leading others. This is
where faith becomes action.
5. HOW IT ALL WORKS TOGETHER
We don’t grow by moving through programs...we grow by living in this system.
● Gather sets direction
● Connect facilitates transformation
● Serve puts it into motion
As people step into these environments, they continually:
● Belong
● Surrender
● Train
● Multiply
6. THE CORE IDEA
This is our operating system: People are formed as they follow Jesus in real
life...and over time...they help others do the same.
7. LEADERSHIP (HOW IT MULTIPLIES)
Leadership is not separate from discipleship...it is the natural outcome of it.
